I had my first taste of Cataract Gorge on Tuesday evening, going down to swim at the basin with some friends. I'd never been swimming there before. It was a warm night and there were quite a few people dotted around the rocks and swimming around. It feels like such a treat to swim in a big body of water instead of a busy chlorinated city pool. It didn't take me long to jump in and swim out to the middle. I remember floating in the middle of the water looking up at the circular pattern the clouds were forming in the sky. With my ears under the water the sounds of the basin (shrieks of little children and splashes of water) all blended into a muffled sort of silence. It felt like magic as I slowly circled around and breathed a sense of relief that I was away and happily enjoying a summer night outdoors.
