I was feeling a little out of sorts on Thursday for reasons back home but my spirits were soon lifted as Georgia and I got on the road. The feeling of moving always helps (along with some Cadbury chocolate and 90s dance music). We took a bit of a detour and ended up pulling over next to a poppy field for a while. I felt like I was in the Wizard of Oz for a fleeting moment...Toto and I were beginning to feel a bit sleepy so we decided to push on. We pulled over a little later on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and ate some sandwiches. It was so quiet; just the wind blowing and the sun shining down. We stopped a few more times along the way to Douglas Apsley National Park. It was relaxing to just take the journey easy, driving slow and making detours. I quite often feel like I'm rushing somewhere in Melbourne or constantly checking the time. I guess this lost sense of time is one of the important elements of being away.

We got to Douglas Apsley and set up our tent, then put our bathers on and went down to the waterhole as quickly as possible. The water was so clear and refreshing. I felt such a sense of relief to be paddling around. I've been dreaming about that waterhole since I went there this time last year. It's a special place that sticks in your mind.

This guy was stuck in my mind as he kept Georgia and I up most of the night trying to raid our food...
