I went out on a drive for a day trip with Georgia and the friends I'm staying with to Liffey Falls, detouring through the town of Poatina on the way.

Poatina is a little town that was set up during the construction of the Poatina Hydroelectric Power Station in the 60s. All the buildings have a similar look to them, sort of set up in a circle formation on a small plateaux surrounded by mountains. It's very quiet there and has a strange (yet not unwelcoming) feeling to it. It looks like a cult could operate well there. My friends and I enjoyed browsing the op shop for 'Poatina outfits' and having a swing on the playground.

We picked some blackberries along the way but there weren't as many as there had been when I had travelled out that way last year. I think the hot days had weathered everything a bit. We managed a few to eat but luckily we had some sandwiches on board. Sitting at one of the picnic tables at Liffey Falls a variety of bugs began to appear; friendly little characters that were just going about their business amidst our lunching.

The falls were quite spectacular. It was nice to ramble down the river a bit and have a peaceful paddle. It's always so good to breathe in fresh air from the forest when you have been stuck in the city for a while.
